Love is in the air at The Greyhound, Beaconsfield
Good food is the way to anyone's heart, which is why we simply love Valentine’s Day. It gives everyone the perfect reason to celebrate their love for one another while enjoying some fabulous food and drink.
But do you know who Valentine was? We recently found out and the story is unbelievably touching. Rumour has it (we say rumour as there are several different versions) that he was a priest in Rome in the third century AD.
At the time, Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men made bad soldiers, but Valentine disagreed, so started to arrange marriages in secret. When Claudius found out he was thrown into prison and sentenced to death. There he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and when he was taken to his death he sent her a love letter signed “from your Valentine”. The date was February 14th.
Valentine’s Day itself didn’t become official until 1537 when King Henry VII declared February 14th a holiday to celebrate all things romantic. And the reason we don’t sign Valentine’s Day cards is that the Victorians considered it bad luck and now it’s firmly a tradition.
I guess we find this all fascinating as this year is extra special for us as it’s our first Valentine’s Day at The Greyhound, Beaconsfield. When we first started to transform this old Grade II listed coaching inn into a wonderful new pub and restaurant, we realized how much we would enjoy creating truly special occasions for our guests.
So, for our first Valentine’s Day in The Greyhound, we really have pulled out all the stops. Our wonderful chef, Sean Norton, has created a fabulous, innovative menu and you’ll get to try some great wines from our wine list which complement the food perfectly.
We would love nothing more than for you to choose The Greyhound as the place to eat in Beaconsfield on Valentine’s Day. And if you ever fancy a quick pint or glass of wine, our doors are always open. We promise to make every experience one to remember.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.

The Greyhound menu for this Valentine’s Day
Whether you would prefer to celebrate Valentine’s Day at lunchtime or in the evening, why not treat yourself and a loved one to our very special tasting menu, which includes some truly delicious dishes.
Try our mouth-watering Stone Bass. It has a slightly sweeter taste than sea bass and has been paired beautifully with carrot and lovage. Or there’s our tender Assiette of Lamb with Courgette and Aubergine or the wonderful Baron Bigod, a creamy cheese with a smooth silky texture, that works perfectly with pickled walnut and pear. For vegetarians, we offer completely different dishes.
And of course, Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without champagne, which is why our dessert is Strawberry with Champagne and Yogurt - just heavenly.
If you enjoy your wine, then think about choosing our matching flight of fantastic wines. Each wine has been hand-picked to match each of the courses perfectly, so you’ll get to experience the full flavours of each dish.
And don’t worry if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. We are always more than happy to make any changes to the menus where we can. Just let us know when you book a table or order your food and we’ll ensure you have the perfect dining experience.
