October: Our recommendations on the menu this month
What we’ve been eating: Soda bread with beurre noisette
We’re firm believers that sometimes the simplest dishes can be the best, and as the weather gets colder and the leaves start to fall, we don’t think there’s anything more comforting than some beautiful bread and butter.
We start every meal at the Greyhound the best way we know how – with our homemade soda bread, the kind you find across homes in Scotland and Ireland.
Finished off with a sprinkling of porridge oats, we cook every roll individually fresh each day, so they’re always served warm. We serve it with beurre noisette, or brown butter, which has an incredible toasted, nutty flavour with an extra salty hit.
What we’ve been drinking: Sparkling Darjeeling tea from The Real Drinks Co
First flush Darjeeling loose leaf tea, known as the ‘Champagne of teas’, carries a legacy that dates to the mid-19th century. This sparkling tea is a sophisticated, alcohol-free alternative to sparkling wine, with a pale golden hue and delicate floral notes alongside hints of muscatel grape and citrus.
Stone fruit, rhubarb and raspberry flavours make it a versatile companion for soft, creamy cheeses like brie or goat’s cheese, its acidity balancing the richness of cheese. For a more vibrant pairing, it also goes well with a crisp, fresh salad or a fruity dessert, to bring out the tea's natural fruit notes.
