Caviar Training | Team News | Our Next Travel Lunch Club

There's always something happening at The Greyhound, Beaconsfield. This month we've been learning all about caviar, celebrating a well-deserved promotion and planning a fascinating afternoon of history and good food.

Caviar Training with King's Caviar

We were delighted to welcome Holly from King's Caviar to The Greyhound for a hands-on training session with the team. Holly talked us through how caviar is sourced, the different varieties available, and the best way to taste it.

The team then tasted their way through a selection of caviars, including the Platinum variety we serve here at The Greyhound. Hailing from Belgium, Platinum is a hybrid of Oscietra and Baerii sturgeon, with fresh, intense ripeness, top notes and undertones of almond oil and rich tannins.

We're always looking for ways to expand our knowledge and discover something new to share with our guests, and sessions like this help us do exactly that. Watch our reel of the session to see the highlights here.

Congratulations to Alexander, Our New Head Kitchen Porter

Please join us in congratulating Alexander on his promotion to head kitchen porter. Alex has been part of the family since joining us at The Greyhound in 2023, and we've had the pleasure of watching him grow into an integral member of our kitchen team. In his new role, he'll oversee KP standards across both The Greyhound and our sister restaurant, Old Town Bistro. Congratulations, Alex!

Travel Lunch Club: The Battle of Isandlwana on 28 October

Our next travel lunch club takes place on 28 October, and it's one for history lovers. Priced at £90 per person, the event will focus on the Battle of Isandlwana, with an exclusive talk by Douglas Rattray followed by lunch.

Douglas draws on the expertise and legacy of his late father, renowned Anglo-Zulu War historian David Rattray, and will bring the events of 22 January 1879 vividly to life from both British and Zulu perspectives. With his exceptional knowledge and storytelling, he'll explore the courage, gallantry and tragedy of one of Britain's most famous military battles. It promises to be a fascinating and memorable afternoon in Beaconsfield, and we hope you can join us.

Our Next Wine Dinner in Beaconsfield: Miguel Torres Chile on 14 October

Our next wine dinner takes place on Wednesday, 14 October, and this time we're exploring the wines of Miguel Torres Chile. Founded in 1979 in the Curicó Valley, Torres Chile has played a vital role in bringing modern winemaking techniques to Chile while also championing its traditional grape varieties and historic vineyards.

From the cool coastal vineyards to the old vines of the south, the wines showcase Chile's remarkable diversity. Expect expressive Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, alongside indigenous varieties such as País, one of Chile's oldest and most historically significant grapes.

Our tasting will take us from fresh, elegant wines through to some of Torres Chile's most distinctive and prestigious bottles, including Manso de Velasco Cabernet Sauvignon and Escaleras de Empedrado, a remarkable wine from the schist soils of Maule. It's a fascinating journey through Chilean terroir, heritage and modern winemaking, paired with an evening of great food and, of course, plenty of wine!

The wine dinner is priced at £150 per person and includes a four-course menu with wine pairings, tea and coffee to finish, plus service.

To reserve your place, email us at info@greyhoundbeaconsfield.co.uk or call us on 01494 671315.
