Alfresco dining | Newland Girl's school visit | Her Majesty’s Jubilee

Summer is nearly here, and we’re delighted to announce that we have opened our terrace for alfresco dining – an ideal spot to toast the sunshine and enjoy some of the deliciousness we have on our food and wine menus.

We’re continually striving to develop our wine list, including spending time with vintners to help us understand more about how wine is made, its key characteristics and vineyard management. The more we know about the wines, the better we can pair them with our dishes and enhance your experience.

To that end, Margriet took a trip to Weingut Selbach-Oster in the Mosel Valley this month. The Selbach family has a wine history stretching back more than 400 years in what is itself Germany’s oldest wine region.

Their exceptional Rieslings offer elegance, saltiness and a cool minerality – perfect for a summer afternoon. We’d love to hear what you think of our Selbach-Oster 2019 Riesling when you are next in.

We also hosted small family winery Bachelder who came all the way from Canada to train our team on some of their brilliant wines.

Speaking of education, we recently visited Newlands Girls’ School to talk about the diverse career opportunities the hospitality industry can offer. We’ve been to several schools in the area and are always blown away by the enthusiasm shown by the students.

Last but not least, to mark Her Majesty’s Jubilee, we have teamed up with Chapel Down Winery and now have Chapel Down Rosé Brut or Vintage Reserve available by the glass in the restaurant.

What’s more, we are offering two guests the chance to win a complimentary tour and tasting at Chapel Down Winery, as well as a three-course lunch at its on-site restaurant The Swan.

All you have to do to enter is type ‘JUBILEE’ in the comments box when you book a table to dine with us in June! We’ll announce the winner in the first week of July.

We look forward to seeing you very soon.
